Where Would You Like To Begin?
There’s more than one way into this work. Choose what calls you.
A Bodygraph Is More Than a Diagram
Every center in your Bodygraph has a specific function. Together, the nine centers form an interconnected system through which you experience inspiration, thought, expression, identity, will, instinct, life force, emotion, and pressure.
In the Nine Officers framework, each center is understood as a microphone tuned to its own function. Some microphones broadcast a consistent signal. Others amplify what they encounter in their environment.
The distinction between defined and open is essential to understanding how your design operates.
Defined and Open: Two Modes of the Microphone
Not every center operates in the same way. Some carry a consistent definition, while others remain open to the influences around them. Understanding this difference gives you a starting point for recognizing your own patterns.
Defined Centers
The consistent signal
A defined center represents a more consistent expression of its function. Its microphone broadcasts a reliable signal, giving you a recurring way of experiencing and expressing that part of your design. These are areas of consistency to recognize and understand, rather than something you need to prove.
The receptive amplifier
An open center does not have the same fixed definition. Its microphone can amplify and reflect what it encounters, making you more sensitive to the energies and influences moving through your environment. This is where conditioning can take hold, but it is also where awareness can grow through observation and experience.
Defined Does Not Mean Better. Open Does Not Mean Broken.
Neither mode makes you more or less complete. The distinction helps you recognize where your experience tends to be consistent and where outside influences may become amplified.
Understanding that difference gives you a starting point for observing your own patterns instead of automatically identifying with everything you feel.
Explore the Nine Centers
Each center has its own function within your design. Choose a center below to explore its mechanics, its particular pressures and gifts, and what you can observe in everyday life.
Apollo · Head Center
Inspiration and questioning. The pressure to question, wonder, and seek insight. The Head Center receives inspiration; it is not responsible for solving every question. Explore Apollo →
Hermes · Ajna Center
Mental processing and interpretation The realm of concepts, analysis, and making sense of information. Explore how the mind processes ideas without needing to make every uncertainty disappear. Explore Hermes →
Hephaestus · Throat Center
Expression and manifestation The center of expression, communication, and bringing things into form. Its mechanics are about expression and timing, not simply forcing an outcome. Explore Hephaestus →

Your Chart Begins with the Sky You Were Born Under
The centers are part of the Bodygraph, but understanding your own design begins with having a chart calculated using the astronomical framework you follow.
True Sidereal Human Design uses the actual sky as its reference rather than relying on the conventional tropical zodiac. Within this framework, that distinction matters because the planetary placements determine the gates and activations used to interpret the chart.
Your chart is the starting point for exploring which centers are defined, which are open, and how the Nine Officers relate to your individual design.
YOUR DESIGN. YOUR DISCOVERY.
The Map Is Only the Beginning
Understanding the nine centers gives you a foundation. Your own chart brings that architecture into focus, revealing which microphones broadcast consistently and which amplify the world around you.
Begin with your chart, or let a personal reading help you explore what your design means for you.
