13 Planets Decoded
The planets are not symbols.
Discover what each planetary placement brings to your Design, from the Sun’s illumination to the deeper forces shaping your experience.
The Divine Chorus Flowing Through Us

The ancients mapped the planets to gods and goddesses… Apollo, Artemis, Hermes, Aphrodite, Ares, Zeus, Kronos, Ouranos, Poseidon, Hades. Their movements in the heavens were seen as divine actions, each one casting its frequency into the world.
In the bodygraph and mandala wheel, those same gods appear again as rulers, generals, and officers. This is not coincidence. It is coherence. The same intelligences that move the sky also govern the mechanics of our design. The macrocosm and the microcosm are one.
Humanity is not separate from the cosmos; we are its embodiment. When Genesis says, “Let US make man in OUR image,” it is not a solitary voice. It is the chorus of gods…Apollo’s torch, Artemis’ vessel, Hermes’ messenger, Aphrodite’s harmony, Hades’ descent…weaving humanity in their likeness.
The planets are their chariots in the heavens. The bodygraph is their temple within. To see this is to see the divine flowing through us all, shaping and ruling our lives.
What the Planets Actually Do
The Planets as Delivery Vehicles
In True Sidereal Human Design, the planets are not symbols or archetypes. They are mechanical carriers of programming, each one casting its frequency into your chart at two critical moments: the instant of your birth and the Design imprint approximately 88 days before.
This programming activates specific Law Keys within your Nine Officers, defining which centers are switched on and how your energy moves through the world. The planets are the organs of the solar system, each delivering a distinct frequency into your Design.
The Planetary Connection
Think of the planets as delivery vehicles. Each carries a particular frequency into your chart. That programming activates specific Law Keys, which connect to the Nine Officers and the centers they govern. The planetary placement tells part of the story. The Law Key adds its specific meaning, while the center shows where that programming operates within your Design.
Together, these elements form a connected system: the planet carries the programming, the Law Key identifies its particular expression, and the Nine Officers provide the framework for understanding how it operates through your centers.
This programming activates specific Law Keys within your Nine Officers, defining which centers are switched on and how your energy moves through the world. The planets are the organs of the solar system, each delivering a distinct frequency into your design.
Unlike tropical astrology, which drifts away from the real sky, True Sidereal calculates planetary positions against the fixed star backdrop… the actual sky you were born under. This restores mechanical accuracy: the chart as the cosmos truly wrote it.
The 13 Planets in True Sidereal Human Design
The planets each contribute a distinct role within your True Sidereal Human Design chart. To understand your Design, it helps to begin by understanding what each placement brings to the larger picture.

Personal Planets — Sun, Earth, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars
These placements relate to the immediate, lived mechanics of your Design: life force, grounding, rhythms, communication, values and drive. Each has its own role, which we will explore in the individual planetary teachings below.
Outer Planets — Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto
These slower-moving planets contribute what this framework describes as the long-arc programming of your life. Their themes include expansion, calibration, mutation, mystic perception and transformation.
The Nodes — North Node and South Node
The North and South Nodes form an axis that describes two connected directions in your Design. The North Node is the compass pointing toward what lies ahead, while the South Node is the archive of familiar patterns and accumulated experience.
Chiron — The Wound That Becomes Medicine
Chiron represents the sacred wound: the place where pain can become a source of wisdom and where the experience of healing can shape what you come to understand.
Lilith — The Wild Truth That Refuses Conditioning
Lilith represents the exiled feminine and the untamed truth that refuses to be silenced or forced into conformity. Her placement invites exploration of autonomy, sovereignty and what has been cast out.
Together, these planetary placements provide a framework for exploring your chart. Each planet has its own essential meaning, while its specific placement adds another layer to the story.
The sections that follow explore each planet individually, connecting its essence, its mythological association and its universal meaning. As you read, you can begin tracing these themes through the Law Keys and centers in your own Design.
The Sun — Torch of Revelation
Essence: Why the Sun Is the Torch
The Sun is the torch of revelation. In the ancient Greek world, it was Apollo’s chariot: the radiant fire that illuminates the heavens and sustains life. The Sun does not whisper or conceal. It shines into shadow, exposing what resists being seen.
Its meaning is not simply truth. Truth, in the ancient sense explored here, is rootedness and steadfastness like a tree that stands firm. The Sun expresses something different: light revealed. It illuminates, exposes, and makes the hidden visible.
This is why the Sun holds such a prominent place in a chart. It acts as a carrier of personality, broadcasting its particular frequency through the placement it occupies. The hexagram, line, and center shape how that frequency is expressed, but the Sun’s essential nature remains the same: it is always the torch of revelation.
Living Example: My Chart

My own chart provides a living example of how the same planetary essence can express through two very different placements.
Design Sun —> Hexagram 64, Line 6, Head Center (Apollo), Quarter of Duality, under Aphrodite and Harmonia
Here, the Sun shines its torch into the cave of confusion. Its expression brings unfinished harmony into view, illuminating contradictions within bonds and relationships and bringing what is unresolved into awareness.
Personality Sun —> Hexagram 5, Line 4, Sacral Center (Dionysus), Quarter of Mutation, under Hades and Prometheus
Here, the Sun’s torch beats with rhythm. Its expression illuminates patience, timing, and cycles the natural rhythms that create stability while change is developing.
These are two different expressions: one mental, one bodily. Yet both carry the same solar essence. Apollo’s torch shines through each placement, revealing what needs to be seen in its own way.
Universal Meaning: The Torch Remains the Same
The Sun is always the torch of revelation. Each hexagram and line gives its expression a particular character whether that involves confusion, patience, rhythm, harmony, or another theme but the underlying essence does not change.
My chart illustrates this principle: the Sun expresses through the Head Center in one placement and the Sacral Center in another, yet its essential role remains illumination.
To explore your own Sun, look at its hexagram, line, and center. Then explore the corresponding Ancient I Ching meaning. These details help you investigate what the Sun illuminates in your Design, while the Sun itself remains the torch that brings it into view.
Earth — The Anchor of Embodiment– Deity: Gaia
Earth grounds the Sun’s revelation in physical experience. Where the Sun illuminates, Earth anchors. Gaia represents stability, embodiment, and the work of making what is revealed real. Earth points to the ground you must stand on and the lessons you must live to express your solar purpose.
Moon — The Vessel of Rhythm – Deities: Selene and Artemis
The Moon is the vessel that receives and reflects, governing rhythm, instinct, and cycles. Its placement explores sensitivity, adaptation to your environment, and how you respond to the changing phases of life. Like the Moon itself, this force reflects the world around it while moving through its own recurring rhythms.
North Node — The Compass of Destiny – Deity: Klotho
The North Node points toward unfamiliar terrain and future growth. Klotho, who spins the thread of life, represents the direction of becoming: the experiences that stretch you beyond the familiar and draw you toward what is still unfolding.
South Node — The Archive of Karma – Deities: Lachesis and Atropos
The South Node represents the archive of familiar patterns, accumulated experience, and the territory you already know. Through the imagery of the Moirai, who measure and cut the thread of life, it invites discernment: recognising what has served its purpose and what must be released as your path continues.
Mercury — The Messenger of Cognition – Deity: Hermes
Mercury carries thought, language, and information. Hermes is the messenger and guide between worlds, translating signals into understanding and helping meaning travel between the inner and outer worlds. Mercury’s placement explores how ideas are processed, communicated, and shared.
Venus — The Law of Harmony – Deity: Aphrodite
Venus expresses attraction, harmony, and the geometry of relationships. Aphrodite represents the force that draws forms and people together through resonance, beauty, and connection. This placement explores the principles that shape your bonds and the order through which harmony is created.
Mars — The Spark of Ignition – Deity: Ares
Mars is the spark that ignites action, conflict, and transformation. Ares represents raw vitality and the heat that forces change into motion. This placement points to where energy is activated, where confrontation may arise, and where life pushes you toward a new stage of development.
Jupiter — The Law of Authority – Deity: Zeus
Jupiter represents law, authority, and the responsibility that comes with power. Zeus is the keeper of oaths and enforcer of cosmic order. This placement explores where principles are tested, where authority must be exercised, and where truth must be upheld against distortion.
Saturn — The Keeper of Cycles – Deity: Kronos
Saturn governs time, boundaries, structure, and cycles. Kronos reminds us that growth has limits and that lessons may repeat until they are understood. This placement reveals where discipline and patience are required, where consequences take shape, and where the harvest comes through time.
Uranus — The Sky Father of Change – Deity: Ouranos
Uranus represents sudden change, disruption, and the breaking of established patterns. Ouranos embodies the vast sky and the force that overturns what has become fixed. This placement points to where unexpected shifts can open new possibilities and where liberation may require a radical departure from the familiar.
Neptune — The Oceanic Veil – Deity: Poseidon
Neptune represents dissolution, intuition, and the hidden currents beneath appearances. Poseidon rules the sea, where boundaries blur and depths conceal as much as they reveal. This placement explores surrender, subtle influences, and the movement between uncertainty and deeper perception.
Pluto — The Descent of Transformation – Deity: Hades
Pluto represents profound transformation through endings, descent, and renewal. Hades rules the underworld and its hidden wealth, reminding us that what lies beneath the surface may hold both power and truth. This placement points to where old structures must fall away, buried material comes into view, and transformation begins at the deepest level.
Chiron — The Wounded Healer–
Chiron is associated with the wounded healer: the figure whose own experience of suffering becomes a source of knowledge. In your chart, Chiron offers another point of inquiry into the experiences that shape understanding and the wisdom gained through confronting what is difficult.
Lilith — The Exiled Feminine
Lilith represents the force that refuses to be controlled, silenced, or reduced to another’s expectations. Her placement invites exploration of independence, rejected aspects of the self, and the parts of your nature that resist imposed limits.
Reading the Planetary Pattern
No planetary placement tells the whole story on its own. To explore a placement in your True Sidereal Human Design chart, look at:
- The planet: the force carrying the programming.
- The Law Key: the specific meaning expressed through its Hexagram and line.
- The center: where that programming operates through your Design.
Together, these elements help you explore how the planetary pattern fits into the larger architecture of your chart. The chart is the map. Your body is the laboratory. Your life is the experiment.
A Planetary Puzzle to Begin

You’ve just walked through the full chorus of the thirteen planets, with Chiron and Lilith standing at the threshold. Now, here is a small moment of play… a word search that hides their names in the grid.
It’s a way to let your body trace the letters, to feel the names in motion after meeting their mythic essence. You can explore it right here on the page, screenshot and circle them, or print it out if you prefer something tactile.
A light pause of play before the FAQ below, where the deeper mechanics are clarified.
You have walked through the planetary halls, met their voices, and felt their currents. This page is not an ending, but a threshold. The sky continues to speak, and your chart is its living script.
