What Is an Aura Type?

Your aura is the living field through which your body meets the world. It is the way your energy moves, responds, initiates, guides, or reflects as you move through your environment.

The aura is not the driver of your life, and it is not your inner authority. It is the field through which your body meets what is happening around you. It is aware of what it encounters and can pick up on what is happening before the mind has had a chance to catch up.

In True Sidereal Human Design, your aura type is determined by the mechanics of your actual birth chart. When the chart is calculated against the real astronomical sky, the five aura types emerge through the centers and mechanics that are defined in your design.

There are five:

• Hestia — Generator
• Iris — Manifesting Generator
• Astraea — Projector
• Nike — Manifestor
• Selene — Reflector

Each functions differently. The aura type gives you the beginning of the map, while the rest of your chart shows the particular way that field operates through your body. Your aura type is not something you have to become. It is something you can learn to recognize.

How True Sidereal Determines Your Aura Type

Your aura type begins with your birth chart. True Sidereal Human Design calculates the positions of the planets against the actual astronomical sky at the moment of your birth, rather than using the tropical zodiac positions used in mainstream Human Design. Those planetary positions determine which centers are defined and which are open. From that underlying architecture, your aura type emerges.

The five aura types are:

Generator -> Manifesting Generator -> Projector -> Manifestor -> Reflector

The True Sidereal calculation does not assign you an aura type based on your personality, behavior, or what you identify with. It is read from the mechanics of your chart. And while many people retain the same broad aura type when moving from a tropical calculation to a True Sidereal one, the rest of the chart can shift significantly. Gates, channels, centers, and planetary placements may change, giving you a different mechanical map to explore.

The calculation comes first. The interpretation comes after.

There are five aura types in Human Design, each describing a different way the body’s energy field meets and moves through the world. In this framework, each type is also connected with a Greek archetype that gives us another way to recognize its particular function. You do not need to learn everything about your aura type here. These are your starting points. Each one has its own dedicated page where you can explore the mechanics, the archetype, and how that aura functions in lived experience.
